Dental Technology Shelburne

Innovative Technologies to Ensure Better Overall Health

At Shelburne Village Dentistry, our team spares no expense when it comes to providing the best in dental innovation. In combination with our comfort amenities and one-on-one customer service, we use modern technologies in-house to produce precise results that stand the test of time. Whether it’s our digital X-rays or CBCT scanner, we can view high-resolution images that make it easy and more convenient for us to build accurate treatment plans that benefit all patients. Review the details below and call us if you have any questions.

Digital X-Rays

Traditional radiographs were once the only way to retrieve images that allowed dentists to see beneath the gumline. Not only did it take up much of a patient’s appointment trying to capture these images, but the machines emitted high levels of radiation. Fortunately, all of that has changed thanks to our digital X-ray system. Instead of taking time to develop the scans in a darkroom, the photos appear almost instantly on a nearby monitor, and the device emits up to 90% less radiation for a safer method of care.

CBCT Scanner

When digital X-rays are not enough to see the intricate details that are required for more complex restorative treatment (i.e., dental implant placement or root canals), we use our CBCT scanner. Consisting of a 360-degree rotating arm, the device takes hundreds of images of your face, mouth, and head to produce a single 3D image. This allows our team to carefully examine your teeth, gums, jawbones, and other blood vessels and nerve pathways to formulate a more accurate treatment plan.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Do you struggle with dental anxiety leading up to and during your visits? If so, consider nitrous oxide sedation! Commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” this calming solution has helped countless patients have the calm, stress-free, and comfortable experience they deserve while taking care of their smiles for years now. If you are interested in learning more about this type of dental sedation, simply get in touch with our team at Shelburne Village Dentistry or read on!

Who is a Good Candidate for Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide in Shelburne can help children and adult patients who:

  • Struggle with mild to moderate dental-related anxiety
  • Have a fear of needles
  • Need extensive dental care, like a root canal
  • Experience head/neck/jaw pain
  • Have a sensitive gag reflex

Of course, the only way to know for certain if you’re a good candidate is by scheduling an appointment with us. That way, we can discuss your medical and dental history, learn about any medications you’re taking, and review any allergies you have. If we determine that nitrous oxide isn’t the ideal solution for you, don’t worry – we’ll work with you to find another way to give you the positive experience you deserve at our office.

How Does Nitrous Oxide Work?

When you arrive at our office, a helpful member of our team will take you back to the treatment room and help you settle comfortably into the chair. Then, they will place a small mask over your nose, switch on the nitrous oxide, and ask you to breathe through your nose. It will only take a few minutes for the effects to set in, resulting in any nerves, anxiety, and stress melting away.

Once we’re done providing the dental care you need, we will stop the flow of nitrous oxide and remove the nasal mask. Within a few minutes, the effects will completely dissipate. As a result, you don’t need to take the rest of the day off work or arrange for someone to drive you home from our office. Just make sure to follow any directions we give you pertaining to the preventive, restorative, or emergency dental care we provided, like rinsing with warm saltwater periodically or using a cold compress for 10 minutes at a time.
